About

Hi, I’m Gray (they/he)! I’m a multi-disciplinary maker exploring modalities through experimentation with textiles, hardware, and found objects. Right now, I primarily make bags and apparel from second hand and vintage textiles.

The process of sourcing materials is central to my work: I search for used fabric at thrift stores, online, in relative’s living rooms, or wherever unwanted textiles end up. I use upholstery and other thick fabrics so that the bags are durable and sturdy for long-term use.

I rediscovered my love of sewing in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic created a need for fabric masks and quarantine gave me time to pick up the long-lost childhood hobby. In May of the same year, I graduated from undergrad— three months after the unexpected death of my mother. Sewing with my mom’s 1980’s Kenmore machine, the hobby is both a creative outlet and a practice to honor the memory of my mother. Now, I collaborate with my partner Wes Halbmaier to make bags and sell at markets.

In both professional life and creative practice, I get excited about working collaboratively, solving complex problems, and finding sustainable, creative, and equitable solutions. Reach out if you want to collaborate or connect!
